Today March 3rd, marks World Book Day and the pupils in Scoil Mhuire are busy celebrating this day throughout the school. Ms. Lee’s Junior Infant class was joined by Ms. Fahy’s 4th in some very special shared reading. As you can see from the photos – the magic of story telling never gets old! Ms. Murray’s 6th got into the spirit of World Book Day by transforming into their favourite fictional character. Mary Poppins, Madeline and even Mr. and Mrs Twit could be seen wandering the halls in full costume. Ms. Murray did not let the grown up side down as she paraded about as Angelina Ballerina. Just another eventful day in Scoil Mhuire!
Every child in the school is heading home today with a book token in their bag. All the bookstores are participating – so pop into your nearest one and redeem a book your child is sure to love. For further information on what books you can choose from go to http://www.worldbookday.com/books. Happy reading everyone!!
Also, check out these AMAZING illustrations by our very own Ugne Visickyte in Ms. Mahon’s Class. The talent in this school is simply endless!!!
How appropriate with the new building currently underway that this week marks Engineers Week. Engineers Week is a week-long programme of nationwide events celebrating the world of engineering in Ireland. The week aims to create a positive awareness and spark enthusiasm about the engineering profession among people of all ages, especially students and their teachers and parents.
Our website of the week is engineersweek.ie where you can find lots of different events taking place right around the country. However, the pupils of Scoil Mhuire were extremely lucky as local engineer Paul Cullen took time out from his very busy schedule to show the girls of Ms Daly’s class a few engineering tricks!! They had a wonderful time discovering the endless possibilities of engineering!!
Our very active Parents Association would like to thank everyone who supported our Table Quiz in Hugh Lynch’s Pub last night. The event is very popular with the serious Quiz Heads and those who just enjoy the social occasion and chat. It was lovely to see our past pupils coming out to support the alma mater! We are so proud of each and every one of you. Special thanks to our Quizmaster Marina who kept the questions flowing all night. Thank you to all who supported the event by way of sponsoring prizes for the raffle. Your continuing generosity and support is very much appreciated!!
Get your thinking caps on everyone as Scoil Mhuire’s annual Table Quiz will take place TONIGHT at 8pm in Hugh Lynch’s, Tullamore. It is €30 for a table of four and refreshments will be kindly provided by Lynch’s (definitely worth coming along for those goodies alone!!). There will be a raffle as well and the sponsored prizes are extremely generous. Please bring a friend or two along with you tonight – the more the merrier. It is always a great night and we look forward to seeing you there.
We are guessing that your children are running home and telling you about the hive of activity taking place on the grounds of Scoil Mhuire. Well it is all true – the builders are finally in and our school is now a building site. The diggers are digging, the excavators are excavating and the builders are busy transforming the landscape of our much beloved school. After such a long wait – it is hard to believe that this is all finally happening. The new layout of the school offers children innovative spaces to learn in which is an exciting new approach to teaching our millennial students. Expect weekly updates of the transformation. We hope you are as excited as we are!!!
Tullamore Ladies Gaelic Football club popped into Scoil Mhuire this week to show the girls the Junior Championship Cup and League Shield. Our students – the future stars of Offaly football – were delighted to the see the spoils of all the hard work these ladies put into their sport. They encouraged all the young girls to take part and join their local GAA. We are extremely proud to count past pupils among these sportswomen. We wish them continued success into the future.
We are so proud of both our junior and senior quiz teams who did Scoil Mhuire extremely proud in this year’s Credit Union Quiz. They were merely pipped at the post to receive a place but true to their nature, they were very gracious in defeat. These photos were taken the day after the competition and the smiles prove that the girls had the best fun preparing for the quiz and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
To give you an idea of just how tough some of the questions are – the girls would like to challenge you to answer the following samples of Credit Union Quiz questions. Refrain from googling your answers please!!
