Tomorrow (Tuesday 7th February) is Safer Internet Day 2017. It is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. It is difficult to keep up with all the latest Apps, tech lingo, sites etc the students are using. To help you understand these better webwise.ie has plenty of tips and information for both parents and students.
The official website for the event – saferinternetday.ie has a parent section with lots of ideas on how to mark this annual event.
However, if you are looking for a more comprehensive website that gives sound advice regarding how technology is used by everyone in the household – commonsensemedia.org is a great website. Albeit an American site, it even recommends the correct age for movies and tv programmes. It recommends little things such as “Device -free Dinners” and shows you how to keep your privacy secure on line. It also suggests some useful educational apps for all age groups! It is certainly worth a click!
