A Fond Farewell

It is very hard to say goodbye to people at the best of times, but saying farewell to four treasured staff members in one week has caused an increase in tissue demands. Our wonderful caretaker John is retiring having spent the past 14 years attending to the school’s every need. John who crossed the threshold of Scoil Mhuire in short pants way back when it first opened in 1957 has an unbreakable bond with the school.

Sinéad Wright who has been with Scoil Mhuire for the past 13 years is heading to the bright lights of Donegal! Ms. Wright is taking a much deserved career break to soak in the wild Atlantic sea air. As the keyholder to our science equipment kingdom – it will be up to the rest of us to ensure they are in their rightful place.

Gary Dillon’s passport out of Galway has sadly expired and he is now heading back west. From sports to ICT and all that healthy eating, Gary brought so much to the school in his 3 years with us. We wish him the very best of luck in his next adventure.

As you are well aware by now our principal Fionnuala Doheny is hanging up her fob and whistle for the final time. Instead of going to pasture in retirement, Ms. Doheny has a to do list longer than Santa’s List!! She is leaving in her wake a state of the art school that is the envy of the town and a team who intend on fulfilling her mission of bringing Scoil Mhuire into the status of “School of the Future”.

So to all of you, from all of us – you will each be sorely missed but we wish you all the very best of luck in the next chapter of your lives!!!
