A Message from Mr. Naughton
4th May 2020,
I write to you all in the anticipation and hope that you remain healthy and well.
By now, you will have heard the announcement by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, that schools will not reopen until the autumn. Whilst this news is disappointing, we know that the HSE and the Department of Education & Skills are taking this decision to ensure we win our battle against Covid – 19.
I would like to reassure you all that our staff continue to work very hard behind the scenes here at Scoil Mhuire to support your children. We are holding regular middle management and teacher cluster meetings via Google Hangouts and Zoom. Teachers are linking in with students via Seesaw, Google Hangouts, email and by posting out work. Our team of learning support teachers are also linking in with families directly.
I am very thankful to my staff for all their hard work during this time.
I wish to re-emphasise to you that the completion of any work is entirely optional. It does not need to be fully or even partially completed. Your children are learning through playing games, baking, planting seeds, reading books and helping out around the house. Any activity assigned by teachers or suggested on our school Facebook page, may help provide some structure to a child’s day and keep them thinking. Please, enjoy the time you are spending with your children and do not place added pressure on yourselves.
When children return to school in the autumn, teachers will help them settle back to classroom routine. No child will fall behind or have to repeat a class because of this school closure.
We are conscious that some families would like to receive their child’s text books. When staff are allowed to enter school, there will be a plan in place to allow parents/guardians collect books in a safe manner. We will keep you updated on this.
Please continue to look after your mental and physical health during the Covid – 19 restrictions. Get plenty of exercise in the fresh air and adequate rest.
We at Scoil Mhuire will continue to support you in the weeks ahead. Please keep in touch with the school and drop us an email at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Take care of yourselves, stay safe and continue to follow HSE guidelines.
Le gach deá ghuí,
